The surfaces of this heated glass are then cooled rapidly with high velocity blasts of air. Tempered glass is five time as strong as annealed glass. Textured glass sinks are molded at extremely high temperatures, making the shape and texture on the sink itself as opposed to just coating it. Colored glass sinks are made by adding metal oxides to the dry mix and melted in the same way as clear glass. Frosted or Etched glass is etched by sand blasting the glass for an opaque look. When it gets wet however, it become transparent until it dries. On glass vessel sinks, the etching is done on the exterior and then polished smooth. Etching is used to produce patterns in the glass sink, as well producing the frosted look. Having the etching on the exterior makes it easier to clean, for the inside of the glass vessel sink is smooth. To get a smooth surface on the glass vessel bowl the interior is polished to a smooth finish. Glass vessel sinks are the newest and hottest additions to the high end bathroom sink look.
